  - Fighting Joe and the SEC Get Tough
at 2006-01-23 19:43:09

During the call, IBM Chief Financial Officer Mark Loughridge told analysts to "update" their models to reflect the new expense for the just-elapsed first quarter. A chart distributed with the call suggested that analysts lower their earnings-per-share estimates to 90 cents from $1.04, a drop of 14 cents. They did just that.

  - Pandora’s Box Evaporates
at 2006-01-23 19:43:09

I once shared a ski lift with a lawyer. I will spare the obvious lawyer-joke, since I am married to an attorney, and go straight to the point: he worked for Nickelodeon, the kid’s TV network, and he was working on protecting Nick’s content from being poached by the emerging digital downl

  - January 23, 2006 Stock Market Recap
at 2006-01-23 19:44:24

I guess nobody was shocked to see such a relatively narrow range day today. The Nasdaq and S&P both made bullish harami patterns today but the S&P chart looks slightly better than the Nasdaq chart -- the S&P closed above its 50-day moving average and its harami was a bit more bullish due to its empty (white-colored on the cha

at 2006-01-23 19:44:24

Here's a chart of Avaya for Muchausen:

This is a really sloppy chart which I'd just leave alone. It's repairing a lot of technical damage that was done in the first half of 2005, culminating with that gap down in April. I do like the fact that its 50-day moving average is back above its 200-day moving ave

  - Watchlist for January 23, 2006
at 2006-01-23 19:44:24

The dip buyers (knife catchers?) are coming out this morning. My QQQQ intraday chart still looks bearish (it will look better above 41.50) so I'm not yet convinced to join in on the buying. Here are some stocks that have my attention this morning:

BAC -- earnings miss
LEAP -- $45 tgt and overweight rating from Lehman
PALM -- pumped by ThinkEquity with a $50 tgt
GOOG
