The last time I saw Mike Holland, Mary Farrell, and Frank Cappiello together was when I went on an investment cruise in the Baltic hosted by Lou Rukeyser in late 2004. It was very sad but inspiring to to see these three leading Wall Street analysts together again this past Monday at Lincoln Center in New York City, as family, friends, and colleagues gathered to celebrate Lou's very full and important life.
Along with Lou’s youngest daughter Stacy, his brother Bill, and other notable friends and colleagues – including Princeton classmates Donald Rumsfeld and Senator Paul Sarbanes - the three long-standing panelists from Lou’s TV shows, and others, shared their heartfelt reminiscences of a man to whom all of us in the financial media have always looked upon as the pioneer and leading role model for ethical financial journalism.
Lou was a champion for free enterprise and individual investor education, and his impact on the investment community has been and will remain immeasurable. Perhaps the most striking of Lou’s attributes was his sincere belief in keeping one’s investment goals in proper perspective to one's life and, indeed, many recalled Lou’s love of “good food, good wine, and good friends.” He will be missed by all.
Among Lou’s many gifts was his ability to look within the Wall Street community and find those analysts who best met his high criteria for excellence, including Mike Holland, chairman and manager of Holland & Co. Mike who was recently a panelist for a Forbes Roundtable of financial experts. Here, he shares his long-term market outlook.
