Weekend Monitor: First Cut

Educational use only. Never intended as advice.

This is the online version of Chris Berman's fastest 3 minutes in sports, thirty minutes of stock market observations, before I trek to the hospital for the day (and weekend) job.
Calling the bottom? Here's a look at the great site www.stockcharts.com with their SPX/VXO ratio. We're back in nosebleed territory. Actually, my son, has developed a methodology for calling intermediate-term tops, but he hasn't run it the past few days.

October 20, 2005: It's a google world!
at 2005-11-12 23:55:02

I've been waiting for a catalyst to kick start a 4th quarter tech rally, and by gosh, I think it's here. While I hold no position in the great GOOG, I recently bought Yahoo (YHOO) at 34 and it should should benefit greatly from not only it's own positive earnings report, but Google's as well.

YHOO's previous resistance of 35 should become it's support, so I'll look to buy more if it comes down a point.

I'd like to buy these tech stocks on any pullbacks: AAPL, MOT, SNDK, GLW, TXN

Will the new XBOX kickstart MSFT's stock? Worth the risk?

Stay away from oil. Can't figure it out right now.

BCRX and GSK as Avian Flu plays if they come in a few points.

Looking for good technical opportunity to short housing stocks.

If natural gas plays CHK and KCS continue to drop before winter, I may go for a small stake. Looking at CHK around 25.

October 20, 2005: Current Positions
at 2005-11-12 23:55:02

  • YHOO 1000 shares @ 34 ----------->currently 35.71 (+ 1001.71)
  • IBN 400 shares @ 23.90 ----------->currently 23.26 (-256)
  • TJX 500 shares @ 22.12 ----------->currently 20.70 (-710)

Disappointed in IBN, which I've been holding for over a week. I expected the additional raising of capital to boost the stock, as it would allow more foreign investment into the Indian bank. Even the BAC rumors didn't help the stock.

I went with TJX thinking it was going to breakaway after reaching it's 22 resistance. Hasn't done that, even with some good news.

YHOO 's working thus far. I'll keep my fingers crossed that 35 has become the new support. With the GOOG news and it's own, I'm very confident about this one.

Welcome to the StockTradingGuy blog, my personal online stocktrading journal!
at 2005-11-12 23:55:02

Welcome. After years of reading them, I've finally decided to join the blogging community by posting my personal stock trading journal online. It will be laid out in the same way I've always done it, in a "stream of consciousness" format, so expect alot of gibberish, nonsense and grammatical errors. Hopefully you'll find a few money making nuggets mixed in. Feel free to direct any comments or questions to [email protected].

Looking at Tech and NGAS
at 2005-11-12 23:55:02

Usually stay away on options expiration day, but may jump in on tech weakness. NGAS is close to 50 day MA. If 10 looks like a support level, may take a 500 share position.
